We are having to implement a SEATING FEE for GEMSA sponsored Classes due to the ‘no shows’ we are having the day of class.  A $30 Seat Fee will be requested at the end of this application by Credit Card.


After you attend class – within a 30 day period you will receive a $20 check mailed to you at the address you listed on your application (or reimbursed to your credit card) along with a small gift at the end of class.  If you cancel two prior to the class you will receive a $20 reimbursement. If you cancel within two weeks of the class or do not show up for the class you will not reimbursed any funds

 Pre-Hospital & Hospital Emergency
 Care Trauma Skills Lab
This hands-on, immersive session provides participants with a real-world
opportunity to review relevant anatomy associated with critical care and
lifesaving emergency procedures. Under expert instruction, participants
will practice procedural skills, such as basic airway management, direct
and video laryngoscope intubation, intraosseous access, and various
other emergency procedures.

Trauma Course Grant

The Georgia EMS Association has partnered with the Georgia Trauma Commission to facilitate the distribution of funds earmarked for the coordination and delivery of approved Trauma Courses for Emergency Services personnel.

The purpose of this  to provide lead instructors with the information necessary to seek approval through GEMSA for the use of these funds.

Currently, additional funds are approved to cover course expenses for 15 Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, International Trauma Life Support, Geriatric Education for EMS and Emergency Pediatric Care programs at a maximum of $5,850.00 per course (as designated by the GEMSA Trauma Course Grant Agreement. ALL applicants awarded grants must abide by rules in the Trauma Course Grant Agreement and sign, initial and return the completed document to GEMSA within 2 weeks of Grant being awarded).

These funds are provided to ensure participants can attend these programs at no charge.  Our goal is to reach ‘statewide’ and make this training accessible to as many providers as possible.  The class must be an ‘open’ registration course and not limited to a specific set group.  This is a competitive Grant.

Bioesque Disinfecting System

The Georgia EMS Association has partnered with the Georgia Trauma Commission to facilitate the distribution of funds for the Bioesque Disinfecting System for zoned 911 Licensed Transport Services (only).  This system will consist of the battery operated sprayer and a 55 gallon drum of solution.

If you would like to watch recorded sessions from the Virtual 2020 GEMSA Providers & Educators Conference, the sessions are available from today until Nov. 13, 2020.  For the next 30 days, you can access the courses on your own time and get CE credit by watching the sessions and filling out a session evaluation.

IF YOU DID NOT REGISTER PREVIOUSLY, we are opening registration again until Friday, Oct. 16.  Payment is required online with your registration. After that, registration will not be available for this event.

  • 29.5 EMS CE hours are approved by the Georgia Office of EMS/Trauma (Provider and Educator hours available).

The GEMSA Conference Experience will work best with Chrome 30+.

Continuing Education Hours

EMS CE hours are approved by the Georgia Office of EMS/Trauma. Nursing CE hours are being provided by ASTNA for the virtual conference.

How to get credit: 
Start and watch a live or recorded session until the end (remember – you must be “PRESENT” in each session for the minimum time of 50 minutes).  You also have to fill out a session evaluation or you will not receive credit.

The event will conclude on November 13 and all session evaluations must be complete by that date for you to receive credit. After the conclusion of the event, we will email out certificates.

CE Certificates:
Participation certificates with complete CE information are available for those sessions you started and watched until the end (remember – you must be “PRESENT” in each session for the minimum time required). You will receive an email with a link to your printable certificate/transcript for all sessions completed on or before November 30, 2020. You have 90 days after the conference to print your certificate online.

Please note that all sessions will be uploaded to the state GEMSIS system by GEMSA.  We are hoping to have this completed by November 30 as well.  Please keep a copy of the certificate for your records, but there is no need to upload your sessions.

Grant Opportunity- EMR/EMT Grant

The Georgia EMS Association currently has EMR – First Responder/EMT grant dollars available to fund First Responder/EMT courses across the State.  The First Responder/EMT grants are made possible by funding provided through the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission.  

While all 911 zoned EMS Services and 911 Licensed Medical First Responders are eligible to apply for the grant, priority will be given to those services willing to quickly complete the course approval requirements and conduct the program within the contract period allowed.

Deadline for Accepting Applications: September 30, 2020

The First  EMT Grant –

This is a competitive grant. Applications will be accepted till close of business of deadline date. Once the Grants are awarded, GEMSA will deal only with the Service and the Director of the Service will be the person accountable as it pertains to the Grant.  No individual county or zone will be eligible for more than one grant unless there are fewer requests than courses available.

The total dollar amount of each grant will vary depending on the number of students who are enrolled/graduating in the first responder/EMT class.  The initial class roster must have a minimum number of 12 students to be eligible for this grant while the maximum number we will reimburse for is 25 students on the ending roster.  You may elect to have more than 25 students in the class however, we will only reimburse for a maximum of 25 students. Each course must be approved through the course approval process as developed by the State Office of EMS and Trauma.  To receive funding, we must have the SOEMS Course Approval Number on the beginning roster. Students may elect to challenge the National Registry examination; however, the examination is not required and the grant will not reimburse expenses for challenging the exam.

To apply for this grant, you do not need to have prior course approval.  If you receive the Grant, due to time constraints on grant funding, you will be expected to move quickly to obtain course approval through SOEMS/T and conduct the course immediately. 

FUNDS MAY BE USED TOWARD EMT COURSE

All course funding will be handled through the reimbursement process as follows:

The Grant funding will consist of the following:

You will be notified by email and sent a Course Agreement form that you must initial, complete and sign in required fields within 2 weeks of initial email or you will forfeit your Grant Opportunity

Upon GEMSA receiving your fully completed Official GEMSA Roster

GEMSA will:

1)     Reimburse for Textbooks (you must send a copy of your book invoice) according to the number of students you have listed on your initial course roster to a maximum of $110.00 per book (this includes shipping and taxes)

  if your book invoice reflects that the books you ordered cost less than the quoted price  above you will be paid according to the price per book on your invoice

Or Upon Request

GEMSA would provide for EMR Courses –  Emergency Medical Responder:Your First Response in Emergency Care 6th Edition  American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons or for EMT Courses –  Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured  11th Edition American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons – According to the number of students listed on your Official GEMSA Roster

Upon course completion and GEMSA receiving your fully completed Official GEMSA Roster

GEMSA will

1)      issue instructor payment of  $1,650.00

 (An approved roster format will be provided by GEMSA  that must be used for both the beginning and ending rosters for the course.  No other roster format will be accepted)

  • Then GEMSA will provide each successful student with a jump bag and a safety vest.   This will be done after we have verification of successful completion of the course and we have received a copy of the official course roster of successful students. The jump bag and safety vest will be sent to the sponsoring organization and it will be the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to disperse the jump bags and vest to student
  • For the EMT  course – You may request a variance.  In place of the Jump Bags for each graduating student – the Service could receive the funding that would have been utilized to purchase the Jump Bags to assist with Instructor cost.  The Variance MUST be made prior to the course. The Safety Vest must be ordered and sent to the Service for student distribution.

Conference Information

The Georgia EMS Association encourages you to take part in our VIRTUAL 2020 GEMSA Providers & Educators Conference.

Important Information:

IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS – OCT. 10 – Additional Fee Required

  • We will be hosting two in-person workshops can choose from on Oct. 10 – Trauma Symposium/Cadaver Lab and an Instructor Workshop: Show-Me Creative Ideas in the Classroom. These will have limited class sizes to allow for COVID-19 precautions and PPE will be used. These workshops will be held at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott, 100 General McIntosh Blvd. Savannah, Georgia 31401. To comply with hotel guidelines, all guests of any Marriott hotel must wear face coverings in all public indoor spaces including hotel restaurants, bars, and public areas as well meeting and event areas including during the workshops. A registration fee is required and a partial reimbursement for the registration fee and/or hotel room may be applicable.

VIRTUAL CONFERENCE SESSIONS/EXHIBIT HALL – OCT. 11-13

  • October 11-13, we will offer all conference sessions live and pre-recorded in a virtual format during the conference days along with a virtual Exhibit Hall. Tracks include: educators, providers and leadership.
  • The virtual event will be a FREE training event for Georgia EMS providers thanks to our Training Funding Partner: the Georgia Trauma Commission. However, as grant funded spots are limited, there is a $25 reservation fee to reserve your spot. Once you attend the virtual conference, that fee will be applied toward a new GEMSA membership or renewal as applicable. Also, you must be signed up and paid by October 9 in order to participate.
  • A virtual exhibit hall will be available as part of the virtual event. On October 11-12 during select hours, you can visit with exhibitors in their virtual booth, chat with representatives, view product/service materials, and more. This is still a great time to see the latest in products and services for EMS!
  • Giveaways will be available for those who visit the exhibit hall. Watch for more details on what you can win!
  • You need to attend sessions and the exhibit hall, Oct. 11-13, to be eligible for giveaways and other benefits. If needed, you will have an additional 30 days after the event to view the classes or other breakout sessions on your own time. This allows you to get additional CE hours from this event. CE certificates will be awarded.
  • If you have made a hotel reservation, you are able to modify or cancel that reservation without penalty by calling the hotel at 912-233-7722. Please do this at your earliest convenience.

In-Person Workshops – October 10

  • $50 each (you can only attend one) – A $40 reimbursement is applicable if you attend and scan in at the session. If you do not attend, you forfeit your registration fee.  See the brochure for details.

Cancellation Policy

NO REFUNDS will be given for in-person classes unless you are ill and need to remain at home.  No refunds are available for the virtual conference.
