  • New Georgia Trauma Commission members appointed

    Governor Nathan Deal appointments:

    Robert Cowles, M.D.
    Cowles is presently a practicing urologist and is the founder and chairman of Cowles Clinic at Lake Oconee, a multispecialty clinic. He serves on the board of trustees of Tusculum College, has served on the board of governors at the University of Tennessee and is the former president of the Georgia Urological Association. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Urological Association. Cowles earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He and his wife, Jacqui, have one son and one daughter. They reside in Greensboro.

    R. Fred Mullins, M.D.
    Mullins is an Augusta native and is the president and CEO of Joseph M. Still Burn Centers Inc. He serves on the board of directors for the Southeastern Fire Fighters’ Burn Foundation and is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Richmond County Medical Society. Mullins earned his bachelor’s degree from Augusta State University and continued his education at the Medical College of Georgia, where he earned his medical degree in 1996. He practices in Augusta. He and his wife live in Evans with their two children.

    Drs. Cowles’ and Mullins’ term will begin in October 2011. They will fill the positions of Kelli Vaughn and Rich Bias who are rotating off the Commission.


    Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle appointment:

    Elaine Frantz, RN
    Ms. Frantz serves as the Director of Trauma Services at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, providing direction to the Trauma Service department, Transfer Center and several practices. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at W. Va. Wesleyan College and graduate degree in Management at The College of Notre Dame in Maryland. She has served in various clinical, academic, and administrative positions in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Maryland, ultimately joining Memorial in 1991.

    Ms. Elaine Frantz’ term began 01 July 2011. She will fill the position of Dr. Joe Sam Robinson who is rotating off the Commission.

  • Georgia Trauma Commission Update: Summer 2011

    Since FY 2007, the Georgia Trauma Commission has distributed over $86,500,000 to Georgia trauma system stakeholders and trauma system building efforts.

    The following is a resource document assembled to support the salient accomplishments of hard work over the past three years by a very devoted and successful group of voluntary Georgians singly focused on their duties and responsibilities as prescribed in Senate Bill 60 (2007). It is in no way a complete history of work by the Georgia Trauma Commission.

    The Health Resources and Services Administration document Model Trauma System Planning and Evaluation was edited, designed, and coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Program Support Center, Visual Communications Branch.

  • Georgia Trauma Centers Uncompensated Care Claims Audit FINAL REPORT

    Audit conducted by Gifford Hillegass & Ingwersen, LLP under contract to the Georgia Trauma Commission for submitted Uncompensated Care claims from calendar year 2008.

    Final report delivered to Georgia Trauma Commission during the 17 March 2011 Commission meeting.
